An absolutely straight motor highway brings you farther and farther to the north through the boundless expanses of the Ukrainian steppes.

Having covered 277 km. you reach the town Uman’ lying 10 km. from the road. After passing the town center and turning left into K. Marx street you approach the entrance to the Sophia Park. Laid out in the 18th century, it is known for its beautiful pavilions.

The road runs farther north.

For another 200 km. you ride along the excellent smooth road, and soon you come to the Ukrainian capital – Kyiv. Your journey is drawing to a close.

An oriental proverb goes: “Ask one who has seen much rather than one who knows much”. The best way to learn about a country and understand its people is to travel.

A woman came to the police commissar to say that a careless driver had injured her.

“Do you remember the number of the car?” asked the policeman on duty.

“No, I don’t. But I remember that an elderly woman was driving the car in a white hat and a red blouse. Her skirt was a green jersey.”

Two motorists lying in their beds at the hospital looked attentively at each other. At last one of them said,

“It seems to me that I’ve already seen you somewhere”.

“Of course,” answered the other, “that is the reason why we are both lying here, at hospital”.
