The FLEX Program Promotes

Exchanges: two-way learning and building relationships between Americans and citizens of Eurasia

Education: increased knowledge about civil society and volunteerism

Engagement: participation in local community and school activities

Empowerment: positive contributions to home communities upon return and the individual’s ability to make change

Practice Questions: You will be required to write essays about different topics. These are examples of what questions MIGHT be like. Look at the questions and think about some ideas for each. Be ready to write about questions you are not prepared for.

During the test, plan your time. Don’t use too time much for one essay. Use all of your time. If you finish writing, go back and check to make sure everything is correct.

When you are writing your answers, do not only give a simple answer. If there is a problem, think of 2 or 3 things you can do or steps you can take to solve the problem.

Ex. You are offered alcohol at a party. What do you do?

Simple answer – I won’t drink the alcohol.

Better answer – I won’t drink the alcohol. And…

I can stay at the party and not drink, but I still may get in trouble.

I can leave the party and go somewhere else with my friends, maybe to a restaurant or to see a film.

I can try to make friends with people that don’t drink.

I can ask my host family if I can invite my friends to my house and spend time with my friends there.
