Writing

Informal letter.

The informal letter is the most common method of written communication between friends or relatives.

In informal letters there is no To address, Subject or Thanking you. You should write your address to the top right with the date below it. You can end the letter informally with yours affectionately/ yours lovingly/ with love etc. The style is to be informal.

The whole format of the letter should be to the left side of the page. No commas in the From, To or salutation or signing off. Punctuation marks to be observed in the content of the letter. There is no need to indicate the beginning of a paragraph. A little space between paragraphs is to be maintained.

Instructions.

1. Date.

2. Greeting. Use a casual greeting. Start your letter by asking how their life is going. If you know about some problems or plans, ask specifically about these, too.

3. Introduction. Fill him or her in on the details of your life. Your friend shouldn’t have to guess at what’s going on with you, while sitting reading your letter.

4. Body. Share your highs and your lows.

5. Final paragraph. Keep it real. Stay focused on one or two incidents or events.

6. Closing. Sign off with a friendly farewell.

7. Signature.
