ADSC's shipping volume rises 18% to 5.3 million tons

The volume of cargo transported in 2010 by the Azov-Don Shipping Company Group increased by 18% year-over-year to 5,3 million tons, the Group’s press service reported. Export shipments totaled 3,8 million tons, short sea trade volume reached 1,5 million tons.

According to the company boosted shipping volume was driven by ADSC’s program for expansion of its fleet total tonnage. In 2009-2010, the Group acquired 19 vessels of sea-going and river ships with a total deadweight of 101,370 tons. So, in navigation of 2010 the company’s total deadweight of the fleet of river-sea vessels was at 300,000 tons.

Cargo throughput of stevedoring companies of Azov-Don Shipping Company in 2010 rose by 26% y-o-y, to 3,9 million tons. In particular, the volume of handled cargo at Rostov Universal Port reached 1,3 million tons, Ust-Donetsk port transshipped 1,5 million tons, about 1,1 million tons were handled by other stevedoring companies.

Shipments of mineral fertilizer make up 33% of all handled cargoes, construction materials - 28%, coal - 23%, other cargo accounts for about 16%. In 2010, freight flows were handled primarily at the terminals of the Rostov and Krasnodar regions.

According to Michael Shalev, CEO of Azov-Don Shipping Company, next year the Group will focus on the fleet expansion, container traffic, a container terminal project in Rostov Universal Port, development of port areas, intermodal logistics and international trades.

Group of companies Azov-Don Shipping Company was established in 2003. The holding comprises more than 20 companies of water transport, including shipping companies (Donrechflot, Kuban River Shipping Company, "RosShipCom"), stevedoring companies (Rostov Universal Port, Ust-Donetsk Port), logistics and development companies. The Group operates a fleet of 73 river-sea vessels and 100 riverboats. The company transports largely mineral fertilizer - 30% of total shipping volume, building materials - 28%, cereals - 20%, coal - 15% and other goods (7%).

The Group’s stevedoring company are operating at the terminals of Rostov-on-Don, Rostov Region and Krasnodar Territory. The shipping company’s port rotation includes Rostov, Ust-Donetsk, Astrakhan, Kavkaz, as well as Turkey, Greece, Lebanon, Syria, Egypt and Israel.
