4) The soldiers had orders to tear the children from their mothers’ arms if they refused to give them up.

6) The man waved his arm toward the taxi standing in the square.

7) To my great surprise the little girl could count from one to one thousand.

8) Helen didn’t take any interest in her husband’s business.

9) Some progress in her study was evident for the teacher.

6. Read and translate the following extract from the text into Ukrainian: “That is his wish … to a Trustee of the John Grier Home ” (pp.8-9).

1) Find 10 sentences where modal verbs are used and translate them into Ukrainian.

ІV. Discussion

1) Say who in the story:
