The Fire Protection in Russian Federation

The aim of the Fire Service in the every country is to protect people’s life, property, nature from the fire. The organization of Fire Prevention and Fire Protection is a matter of state importance in the Russian Federation.

In 2000 our Firefighting Service was given under authority of the Ministry for Emergency Situations of the Russian Federation.

The Federal Law of Fire Safety of the Russian Federation (1995) defines general legal, economical and social foundations ensuring fire safety in our country. The Law determines types and tasks of the Fire Protection and subdivides it into the following:

1. The State Fire Service.

2. The Municipal Fire Service.

3. The Volunteer Fire Service.

4. The Fire Service Unions.

Our Fire Protection is being provided with modern equipment: an inventory of fire departments is up-dated. The firemen have at their disposal new types of fire engines, automatic ladders, breathing apparatus, firefighting garments, so on. The firefighters arrive within minutes after receiving a fire-call.

Fire investigation having been recognized as a necessary and important part of firefighters job, the fire educational establishments began preparing qualified personnel. The duty of every fireman may be summed up as, firstly, to save people’s life, secondly, to prevent the destruction of property and nature by fire, and, thirdly, to render humanitarian services.

Nowadays the firefighting activity is based on scientific attitude to various problems. Theoretical foundation of the Fire Service and the Emergency Rescue Service is being worked out. With the help of special mathematical models scientists forecast changes taking place in the operative situation of the country.
