Our University

Our University is called the Eurasian University named after Gumilyov L.N. There are a lot of different names in the science, but there are no a lot of worker of the historic conception. Lev Nicolaevich Gumilyev was one of them and looked to the historic process deeply. He pointed to the role of peoples of Eurasia- turkey-mongolian, slavenian, ugro-finn. He showed that world history without the history of that people would not be full, moreover-it would be not right. He proved the meaning of the Eurasian region side by side with the West and the East. Lev Gumilyev liked to communicate with the youth, he often supported the youth in their ambitions and our university was named in his honour. Eurasian university gives a great attention to Gumilyev's ideas. Annually the study term begins with the lessons about Gumilyev. In 2002 in the honest of 90 years old great scientist, the head of the university suggested to create the cabinet of Gumilyev in Eurasian university and in 2004 it was Eurasian National University named after L.N. Gumilyev (ENU) is a leading capital university of classical type.

The university was created by the decree of the President (May,23, 1996) "Taking into account the international relationships of Kazakhstan, which develop steady, its active participating in the world processes, in order to transform the ideas of the Eurasian Unit into a life. First of all there is the idea of Eurasia in the universities foundation.” Today ENU is the embodiment of that idea, university for the future. Eurasian University is under the control of the President as it is the university of the 21 century.

The Eurasian University is big. There are many buildings in it. Some of them are new and some are old. The main building is one of the biggest buildings of the university. There are nine floors in it. On the ground floor and other ones there are two cloak-rooms, departments, many class-rooms, well-equipped labs, a few lecture halls and many.deans offices. Могеover, the university has a great library with many spacious reading halls,or fine gym, a big dining-room and nine hostels. All of them are with in walking distance of the University.

The university has 8 institutes including mechanics, mathematics, physics, chemistry, the Kazakh and Russian languages and literature, foreign languages, history, music, law, economics, journalism, biology, psychology, engineering, architecture-building, and pedagogics. Besides teaching theuniversity staff does a great deal of research. Many of our teachers and instructors are outstanding specialists in various fields of technology and science. Some of them are graduates of our University.

An undergraduate program consists of a series of lectures, seminars, tutorials and laboratory classes which in total account for about 36 hours per week.

Lectures are given to large groups of students. Seminars and tutorials are much smaller than lecture classes be on a one-to one-basis(one member of staff and one student).

Students pass examinations at the end of each term. On completion of studies the student presents a graduation thesis or takes the finals.

A higher school diploma means high academic and professional (general and specialized) training. It also stands for high cultural standards.

The best way of travelling

Millions of people all over the world spend their holidays traveling. They travel to see other continents, modern cities and the ruins of ancient towns, they travel to enjoy Picturesque places, or just for a change of scene. It’s always interesting to discover new things, different ways of life, to meet different people, to try different food, to listen to different musical rhythms.

Those who live in the country like to go to a big city and spend their time visiting museums and art galleries, looking at shop windows and dining at exotic restaurants. City-dwellers usually like a quiet holiday by the sea or in the mountains, with nothing to do but walk and bathe and laze in the sun.

Most travelers and holiday-makers take a camera with them and take pictures of everything that interests them - the sights of a city, old churches and castles, views of mountains, lakes, valleys, plains, waterfalls, forests; different kinds of trees, flowers and plants, animals and birds.

Later, perhaps years later, they will be reminded by the photos of the happy time they have had.

People travel by train, by plane, by boat, by car, by bike and on foot. People travel to have a holidays or to have business. If people have business trips they choose the fastest transport. They often travel by plane or by train. It is very expensive but it is very fast. And if people want to have a rest they choose traveling by boat, by car, on horseback and etc. When you travel by car or by bike you can stop where you want.

All means of travel have their advantages and disadvantages. And people choose one according to their plans and destinations.

If we are fond of traveling, we see and learn a lot of things that we can never see or learn at home, though we may read about them in books and newspapers, and see pictures of them on TV. The best way to study geography is to travel, and the best way to get to know and understand people is to meet them in their own homes. When Charles Babbage, a professor of Mathematics at Cambridge University, invented the first calculating machine in 1812 he couldn't have imagined the situation we find ourselves in today. Nearly everything we do in the world is helped, or even controlled, by computers, the complicated descedants of his simple machine. Computers are used more and more often in the world today for the simple reason that they are far more efficent than human beings. They have much better memories and they can store much information. No man alive can do 500000 sums in one second, but a computer can. In fact, computers can do many of the things we do, but faster and better. They can predict the weather, and even play chess, write poetry or compose music.

More and more people nowadays are interested to be known about all events or finding information quickly. With the help of the internet you can find it easily. Back in the 1960s, during the cold war, the Pentagon asked the question: "How can could orders be issued to the armed forces if the U.S. were ravaged by a nuclear assault?" The main form of communication ways at that time was the telephone, which connected offices, the radio and TV stations was not only vulnerable to attack, it would also probably be the first to go. Pentagon needed military systems that would continue to work even the phones and radio had broken down. In 1964 Paul Baran connected 4 computers in different patts of the USA and posted a message. You couldn't destroy Internet - if some computers will be broken down, the rest will work well. Nobody owns the Internet, and no organization controls its use. Now millions of people around the world are logging into libraries, call up satellite weather photos, download computer programs and music, take part in discussion groups. Even the Presidents have their own Internet accounts. In fact, anyone with modem connected to the phone line can enjoy Internet. The total number of people in Russia, who get into Internet, due the Putin's statistics, is 10 million. In the modern Europe this number is muck more - there are more than 200 million Internet users. Internet users are unimpressed by television promise of 500 channel future. The Internet already delivers 100.000 channels for all interests. In future all technics will be connected to the Internet. Now we can connect with Internet mobile phone, photo camera, palm computers and even alarm clock. Now we can be connected with all the world everywhere - in the bus, underground and even on the north pole.
