INTERNATIONAL ACTIVITIES OF SWSU

SWSU is the only technical university of Russia which is a member of the National Committee of Economic Cooperation with the countries of Latin America. SWSU took an active part in the preparation of the Summit of Asian–Pacific Economic Cooperation in Peru. Within the framework of that event a meeting with the Vice-minister and other officials from Peru Ministry of Education took place. It was settled that SWSU would coordinate all scientific and technical relations between Russian and Peru universities.

A month later the contract between our University and the largest higher school of Peru — National engineering university (UNI) was signed in the Russian embassy in Lima.

Moreover the leadership of National engineering university has become interested in the space program of SWSU and in launching a university mini-satellite into the space. The equipment for this space satellite has been designed by the students of the faculty of the computer design and engineering.

Quite long might be the list of foreign universities which have shown interest in partnership with SWSU: there have been concluded agreements and contracts with them. Besides our university maintains close collaborative links with embassies in the field of science, education and culture. Ambassadors whose students study at SWSU regularly visit the University.

In March, 2009 in Madrid, within the framework of the state visit of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Medvedev, the first forum of rectors «Iberoameriсa — Russia — Spain» was held. A question of reapprochement of higher education systems, joint scientific research, the necessity of studying of the Russian language in Spanish-speaking countries and Spanish — in Russia. Among the rectors of twenty five leading Russian universities invited to the forum was the rector of SWSU Sergey Yemelyanov.

In Havana as a part of delegation of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation which was headed by the stats-secretary, deputy minister Jury Sentjurin, in working out of intergovernmental agreements on a recognition and equivalence of documents on formation and scientific degrees, cooperation in the field of higher education the chief of the Iberoamerikansky countries department of SWSU Nikolay Frolov participated. He was the only representative of the Russian high schools as our university is the leader in relations with the Latin American countries.

Very often our university welcomes scientists from European and Asian universities. This is a sign of SWSU integration into the world educational community.

SWSU has well-established links with the university in Cassino (Italy). For two months students of the faculty of theoretical mechanics and mechatronics of SWSU were doing research work in the field of robotics in the laboratories of the Cassino University. A Russian-Italian seminar on the problems of robotics was held in Kursk. It was another step up in the integration of SWSU into the world educational community. Now the negofiations are in progress to make university qualification diplomas equally valid in both countries. Such practice is becoming popular, but among Universities beyond Moscow, SWSU will be the first to adopt it.

Groups of SWSU teachers work on a regular basis in universities in Spain, Jordan and Myanmar. By the way, KurskSTU has long and friendly relations with Myanmar. Myanmar students usually get masters’ degree and then some of them take PhD course.

Practically most of the engineers in Nepal graduated from Soviet or Russian Universities. An agreement on students’, post-graduate students’ and teachers’ exchange between two universities, SWSU and Nepalese, has been recently signed.

A governmental delegation from Jordan came to Kursk on a business visit to sign an agreement with SWSU on joint scientific and practical work in the field of nuclear engineering. SWSU has proved that its potential is sufficient to meet all the scientific challenges.

A refreshing and re-qualification program for university-level specialists from Middle-East countries was established in Jordan on the basis of two universities: Aman University and. Scientists of SWSU processed the necessary documentation, participated in the organization of the faculties and assisted in the educational process.
