Terminal

Airport, harbour, Coach Station in Tallinn, bus to Kaina. Buses to Hiiumaa depart from Tallinn Coach Station twice daily and board the ferry at Rohukula. Ttimetables are available online at www.tpilet.ee

Special requirements

Motivation letter is required. You have to be ready to adapt to the simple conditions of the common life in the country side of Estonia and be willing to do farm work, which can be hard sometimes. Not suitable for lactose allergic participants since hosts offer a lot of milk products. NB! Smoking and drinking alcohol is not allowed in this camp!

Leisure time

There are lot of nice natural picturesque sights in the area. Sea cost is 7 km away from the working place and there are good possibility take the bicycles and go to swim. It is possible to visit other parts of Hiiumaa Island on weekend. Hiiumaa offers a lot of events on weekends in summer. Hosts plan to arrange some tours around the island. This camp is absolutely suitable for people who enjoy nature and are interested in traditional ways of rural living.

Project

Jarvamaa - Jarva County lies in the very centre of Estonia, it covers area of 2700 km2 and has a total population of about 40 000 people. This area is known for he rich history, which left a lot of objects of historical and cultural heritage, as well as for its beautiful nature with hills, forests, springs, rivers and lakes. The idea of this camp is to help keeping some historical and natural sites of local importance. However the most important aim of this camp is to introduce multiculturalism and offer intercultural exchange to local young people of this rural area, who will be involved to the project. Therefore participants are expected to pass strong message about voluntary service to the local youth.

Work

The work will include landscaping, clearing and tidying up green areas and objects of local importance, some renovation jobs in villages of Jarvamaa and Viljandimaa County, mainly in the villages of Imavere and Kasukonna. The work will be mainly physical, indoors and outdoors. The working day is 5-7 hours, 5 days a week. Work will be done under supervision of local technical leaders. Local young people will be joining international volunteers for work and leisure.
