About Us:

Georgian Youth for Europe (GYE) works mainly with young people aged 12-25 but also with adults. The mission of GYE is to empower youth of the Kvemo Kartli Region of Georiga to achieve their full physical, intellectual, emotional, social, and spiritual potential both as individuals and as responsible citizens. GYE pursues multiple program directions to achieve this mission. It promotes: learning through peer-education training and workshops on art and management; healthy lifestyles by organizing outdoor activities, hobby clubs, and first aid courses; democratic principles by offering trainings on human rights; environmentally-conscious behavior, by raising public awareness about environmental issues through demonstrations, yard clean-up campaigns, after-school environmental education, movie-making on environmental problems, Eco Gardens, and activities to recycle litter into saleable products.

Description of Project:

The Our Shared Village project is a new Georgian Youth for Europe (GYE) initiative that aims to promote a better understanding of Georgia’s community development in rural areas. It seeks to bring together participants from programme countries and 4 Eastern Partnership countries (Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova) in areas of rural youth and get to know their changing environment, organizational and community needs for rural development, organizational participation in society and politics, and youth work in rural areas.

One of the activities to meet the goals and objectives for this project is a training and networking programme to bring motivated international youth rural workers together and exploit their realities and projects on rural development. GYE will host a 7 day study visit in May 2013, where participants will have the opportunity to tour 8 different NGOs throughout Georgia that focus on youth and rural community development. Participants of the Our Shared Village project will get to know each other and Georgian rural NGOs history and mission, community involvement, project initiatives, realities and challenges of working in rural communities, and future projects.

GYE's staff and participants will develop a creative and informative brochure that aims to give a relevant picture of rural organizations in diverse communities. Participants will also have the opportunity to exchange best practices and highlight the positives and negatives of rural organizations throughout varied communities.
