Mass Media Mass media has become an important part In the life of our society. It includes the press, radio television, internet and advertising whose main functions are to inform, to educate and to entertain. They also influence the way people look at the world and make them change their views. Mass media form public opinion. Through radio and television, news is relayed to our living-rooms almost as soon as. It happens. Radio is a quick, cheap method of mass communication. It is ideal news medium. Radio provides programs on serious issues, as well as music, drama and many other forms of entertainment. It is useful for educational broadcasts particularly to be well-informed. One can continue working while listening to the radio and this is one of the reasons for its popularity with whose at home during a day. They can keep up to date with news and current affairs. One of the main industries to develop from radio is the pop music and record industry. Many networks cater specifically for the tastes of the young. Television is probably the most controversial, influential and commercially successful mass medium. For many it is only leisure-time occupation. TV is a marvelous educational medium. Trough documentaries, current affairs and a wide variety of educational programs our horizons are broadened. Like radio, television is excellent news medium, visually bringing us the day's news from the four corners of the earth. Television has greater influence than any other mass medium. Its influence will depend on age, intelligence, social class. Many people argue that it has influence, which low our moral standards, violence. TV programs influence our opinion, mind, model of speech and behavior. Advertising is a form of mass communication. It is important for manufacturers, retailers and consumers. The manufacturer want to sell a product to the consumer, advertisements tell the public that the product is available. Advertising takes a number of forms: television and radio advertisements, billboards, flyers, magazine advertisements, etc. There are some advantages of advertising: to be informed about new products, help to show sport events, entertain. Also there are disadvantages. There are too many advertisements everywhere, it helps consumers to get in the world of unnecessary products, and also the information in advertisements is not always true. Press is also a part of mass media. It includes newspapers, journals and magazines, books. The main purpose of newspapers is to transmit news. The press concentrates on providing comment and critics or current affairs. Certain newspapers sell by appealing to the baser instincts of human nature, but stressing news, shocking aspects. Advertising keeps down costs and helps to sell newspapers and magazines. Internet is the other part of mass media. The internet changed our life enormously. Whatever you are looking for, you will find it. You can put your own information on the internet, create your own homepage, and tell other users about your interests, opinions. There are positive and negative people on the other end of the planet. The e-mail has replaced the traditional letter. You can learn the latest news, stock exchange courses and weather forecasts on-line. But many people can become addicted to it and spend days and nights there, which is very harmful both for health and character. In conclusion, the mass media have done and continue doing much to excite an interesting in every aspect of our life. The mass media now play an important role in shaping our opinions. Great Britain The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland is situated on British Isles. It consists of four parts: England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland. England, Wales and Scotland occupy the territory of Great Britain. Northern Ireland is situated in the northern part if Ireland. The territory of the United Kingdom is about 244.000 square kilometers. The population is over 55 million. The capital of the country is London. The northern and western parts of Great Britain are mountains and is called the Highlands. All the rest (south, east and center) is a vast plain which is called the Lowlands. The mountains are not very high. The rivers are not long. The most important of them are the Severn and the Tames. There are many beautiful lakes in the mountainous parts of the country. The mountains, the Atlantic Ocean and the warm waters of the Gulf Stream influence the climate of Great Britain. The weather in GB is very changeable. A fine morning can change into a wet afternoon and evening and the wrong side out. The English people say: "Others countries have a climate; in England we have weather." Great Britain is a highly developed industrial country. It is known as one of the world's largest producers and exporters of iron and steel products, machinery and electronics, chemicals and textile, aircraft and navigation equipment. One of the chief industries of the country is shipbuilding. Great Britain is country with old cultural traditions and customs. The most famous educational centers are Oxford and Cambridge universities. They are considered to be the intellectual centers of Europe. The education is not free, it is very expensive. The United Kingdom is monarchy and the Queen is the head of state. But in practice it is ruled by the elected government with a Prime Minister at the head. The British Parliament consists of two chambers: the Hose of Lords and the House of Commons. There are three main political parties in Great Britain: Labor, the Conservative and the Liberal parties. The Conservative party is the ruling party nowadays.

Belarus The Republic of Belarus is small beautiful country with the heroic past and interesting present. It is situated in Eastern Europe. The Republic borders on Russia, the Ukraine, Poland, Lithuania and Latvia. It has an area 207.000 square kilometers and a population of more than 10 million. Two-Third of Belarus population live in cities. There are 97 cities in Republic. It's capital is Minsk with the population of about two million people. The largest cities in Belarus are Brest, Vitebsk, Gomel, Grodno and Mogilev in which the administrative centers of the Republic are located. In Belarus there are a lot of lonely plaints covered with hills, many lakes and forests. The highest place in Belarus is a mount Dzerzhinskaya(345) in Minsk region. There are nearly 3.000 rivers with the total length of over 51.000 kilometers in Belarus. The chief rivers are the Dnieper, Nieman, the Zapadnaya Dvina, the Pripat. There are more than 10.800 lakes in Belarus. Most of them are situated in the northern part of the Republic. The largest lake is the Naroch(80 sq km) and the deepest one is the the Dolgoye(54 meters). One third of the Republic's territory is covered with forests. The largest of them are called pushehas. The most beautiful is the Byelovezhskaya. The climate in the Belarus is moderately continental. The climate is middle and one can travel comfortably here at any time of year. Today Belarusian industry produces tractors, big lorries, automatics lines, computers, television sets, bicycle and else. Agriculture specializes in milk and meat production. The main cultures here are potatoes, flax, grain and vegetables. More than 30 minerals have been discovered nowadays in Belarus. Belarus is a republic of well-developed science and culture. There are more the 30 higher educational establishments in our country.
