What makes a great leader?
Some organisations are their leaders: Bill Gates is Microsoft, Michael Dell runs Dell. Entrepreneurs and founders of their organisations, they are perceived to have visionary leadership qualities. They are often asked to pronounce on the issues of the day. They are leaders not of their companies but of public opinion. They are often held up as role models. To be a good leader there are some leadership skills which leader should follow. There is a list of characteric of great leader: personal characters (honesty, integrity, trustworthy, humility, etc.), clear vision and purpose,strategic thinking,passion for what you do,competence (intellectual and emotional),openness and risk-taking,accountability, admitting mistakes and learning from them,leading by example,continued learning and growing. But in my opinion the most important are other ones. Firstly, a great leader is humble.They really understand that their job is to focus on the goal and not on themselves. Good leaders often compete for credit with the results in order to gain more influence or authority. Secondly, great leader should be flexible. It is his ability to adapt to any situation. He sees the situation from many different angles. Also, leader should forecast. A good leader knows what's up ahead. He has the ability to estimate the projected value of a certain object in the future. Another vital factor on what makes a great leader is his creativity. Creativity is not just about art and aesthetics. It is also about being able to solve a problem with the least amount of time, money and effort. They know their customers inside and out. In fact, they know more about their customers’ preferences than their customers. That’s what makes a person like Steve Jobs so incredibly good. Apple doesn’t invent new technology. They invent amazing experiences for their customers. A great leader manages talented people and create a culture where the most talented want to perform. What makes a good leader is the ability to conform to accepted standards but a great leader redefines the standard. Great leaders, because of their passion, determination and perseverance, inspire others to produce at a different level, to give more than is commonly accepted. But also there are some qualities which are disadvantaged for good leader. What makes a bad leader? Well, making rash decisions without discussing it with your team, for one. This is probably one of the biggest reasons that "leaders" lose the respect of their team: Having tunnel vision,being incompetent,being rules oriented and not people oriented,having low self-esteem and confidence,making decisions based on emotions,reacting negatively to criticism,not listening So what makes a great leader? It is a mix of these qualities. You don't necessarily have to possess all of them, but you should at least strive to develop many of them. A good leader acts strategically, they craft out a vision and refer constantly to their vision, in their communications and when giving feedback.
