The Theatre

. People live a very busy life nowadays, so they have little time to spare. Still they try their best to make use of those rare hours of leisure.. Some people find it a pleasure to go to the theatre.. The theatre is one of the most ancient kinds of arts. For centuries people have come to the theatre for different aims: to relax, to be amused and entertained, to have a good laugh, to enjoy the acting of their favourite actors and actresses.

. Some people like drama, others are fond of musical comedy. The subtlest theatre-lovers prefer ballet and opera. In our country there are a lot of theatres: big and small, new and old, famous and not very well known. The Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow is among the most famous theatres in the world. 10). Wonderful operas and ballets are staged in this theatre/. of Ulanova, Plisetskaya, Maximova, Vasiliev, Arkhipova, Sotkilava and others are known worldwide.

There are many famous theatre in Ukraine. Theatrical art in Ukraine arose from ancient folk plays, dances, songs and ceremonies. Young spectators attend the Children's Musical Theatre and the Puppet Theatre more willingly. All these and lots of other theatres present a great variety of shows.). That makes a spectator feel somewhat at a loss what theatre to choose. In this case it may turn out useful to consult a billboard and find out what and where is on. Sometimes you may face a difficulty of another kind: that is of getting tickets. If you don't feel like standing in a queue for tickets at the box-office, you may book them beforehand.

Ticket prices vary according to the seats. The better seats at the theatre are in the stalls and in the dress circle. They are rather expensive seats. Boxes, of course, are the best seats and the most expensive, too. Those people, who are short of money, take seats in the gallery, in the balcony or in the upper balcony.. Tickets for afternoon performances are cheaper than those for evening performances.

Books and readers.

Reading is the most important way of getting information. About 90 per cent of private study time goes for reading.

We can distinguish several types of reading, that is types for different purposes of reading.

The first one is reading to master information, to learn something. It is usually very careful, slow and repeated. When studying something we usually mark the book or use stickers in order to write some useful information or your thoughts out.

The second type is skimming through a book in order to get a general view of it. We use such very quick reading when we choose a book in a library or in a book store.

The third type is revision reading, that is reading very rapidly a book or a part of it, with which you are familiar, in order to confirm your knowledge.

The fourth type of reading is reading in order to search for specific information of to answer a specific question. We usually do it at classes or when we prepare for an exam.

Now I’m going to say some words about the types of readers. We can distinguish the main 3 types of readers.

People belonging to the first type have large libraries, they like to collect books and often buy modern fashionable books. But they don’t read them as their libraries just serve as a decoration.

People belonging to the 2d type also have large libraries, but they don’t read all books, just some of them. They pay much attention to the book’s jacket and the physical appearance of their books.

The third type of readers can be characterized as passionate one. Such people have many or few books, but they read them from cover to cover, they analyze them, turn corners, put stickers into the books, where they write some citations or their thoughts.

Talking about reading I can’t help mentioning e-books. They are becoming more and more popular in our digital world. In the future we can have just one little device for e-books reading with us, but there will be about 5000 different books we like. But of course, computers are not the reason to forget books!

In conclusion I would like to say that reading is the best way to develop your mind and to learn not only some useful information, but also to learn to feel the real beauty of language.

Cinema

The movies are truly an art of our time. It is the greatest aesthetic and educational force in the world today.

The movies are a powerful force in contemporary life. Cinema is also used for educational purposes. Video classes are useful when studying geography, foreign languages and many other subjects. They are also the means of getting acquainted with the world. With the help of documentary and science films one can get much information about the world around. The news on TV helps to know what happens in the world each day. It also helps to attract the attention of people to different important problems, such as hunger, earthquakes, water pollution and so on.

The cinema is also the means of entertainment. After a working day one can relax watching some good movie. Nowadays people can’t just imagine their life without the art of cinema.

There are a lot of different kinds of films: feature films, theatrical films, horror films, thriller films, popular science films, travelogues, mystery films, documentaries, animated cartoon films. Besides, the films may be color or black and white, full-length or short, sound or silent, dubbed in mother tongue, three-dimensional or wide-screen.

We can see films either in the cinema or on the TV. As I am often short of time, I have practically no time for going to the cinema. For this reason I see films on television more frequently. But sometimes I manage to go to the cinema. I prefer feature films and amusing comedies. It’s a pity the life is so difficult nowadays and I want to relax a little, sometimes even to laugh. But at the same time I am fond of true-to-life films describing the life of the ordinary people, their feelings and problems. Such films move me deeply, they arouse the feelings of sympathy or hatred for the heroes. As a rule such films leave a deep and lasting impression upon me.

In Great Britain and the USA the cinemas (“movies” as they often call them) sell more than one billion tickets a year. Movies are also shown on television and can be rented or purchased as a DVD-recorder. People in these countries are equipped with video recorders in their majority. Although people once feared that television would ruin movie industry, movie popularity has soared in recent years in these countries. Attending movies is a relatively inexpensive leisure time activity that is very popular.
