A delegation of American students has come to one of our colleges. Russian and America students have already discussed different prdblems. At the moment they are exchanging impression of advertising (advertisements, adverts, or ads) in their countries.

 

– Билл, часто то ли вы сталкиваетесь с рекламой в вашей стране? – Oh yes, we do. Many kinds of advertising reach people almost everywhere: while relaxing at home, shopping at a supermarket, travelling to and from work, or enjoying leisure activities. People come into contact with a large number of advertisements. It seems to me that there is a lot of advertising in your country too.
– Да, Вы правы. Рекламы много во всех средствах массовой информации: в газетах и журналах, по радио и по телевидению. А у Вас прерываются телевизионные программы коммерческой рекламой? – Sure. It is very annoying sometimes. The purpose of most advertising is to sell products or services, to gain new customer and increase sales. Advertising plays a part in the competition among businesses for the consumer's money.
– Рекламодатели (advertisers) помещают свою рекламу во время интересных телевизионных программ и, таким образом, зрители не могут игнорировать ее. – Andrew, I have found the way out of it. The majority of TV commercials last from 30 to 60 seconds. The commercials are usually run in groups of three to six. And I use this interval for a glass of juice or a sandwich.
– Билл, я тоже так часто делаю. А как насчет рекламных блоков в газетах и журналах? – Printed advertisements make up a large part of newspapers and magazines. Poster ads appear in many buses, in shops, in public buildings, and even in the mailboxes.

7) activities, social activities. People use music in personal and social activities.

8) to create. A famous playwright has created this play.

9) an awe, to awe. People use music in religious services to create a state of mystery and awe.
