International week

The great thing about studying in the UK is not just the academic curriculum, but also the splendid chance for all the extracurricular activities that are available to students. Participating in these will make you a well-rounded personality and could render you more attractive to a prospective employer. If you make full use of the sports, entertainment and music facilities, you are less likely to miss home. You can also make great friends, and will appreciate life in the UK much more. You can learn about other cultures and people, and maybe even learn a new language or two.

Entertainment in the Students' Union

The core of students entertainment is at your Students' Union. Throughout the year your Students' Union will host a wide variety of entertainment on its premises starting with freshers week. Bars and venues in the Student's Union are the hub of students social life. Regular events are held every weeknight including live bands, comedy performances, hip hop, cheese and jazz. Wednesday and Saturday nights at the union are popular with the home students. Unions also bring in high profile bands, DJs and other artists throughout the year. Not all events or evening entertainments in the Students' Union are free. Ticket prices for some of them vary from £3-5.

International themed parties on campus

Throughout the year several international themed parties are held by clubs affiliated to the Union. These include Greek parties, Latin nights, Afro-Caribbean nights and Asian nights.

International week

Held at the beginning of the term, most universities and colleges organize an international week just before freshers week to welcome international students and to help them to get oriented with the campus, its facilities and the country. Lots of social events are organized during this week and you will also meet other international students as well as university staff.

During international week you will probably enroll on your course within your department. Register with the library, register with the Students' Union, join any clubs and societies you wish, get settled down in your hall or house, familiarize yourself with the departments and staff, register with the doctor and the police and familiarize yourself with the campus and town or city. A welcome pack with a programme of the week's events and lots of information relevant to your course, university and the town or city will be usually given to you at registration.
