British universities and colleges place a great deal of importance on sport. Almost all the universities and colleges devote an entire Wednesday afternoon to sport and recreational activities. The most popular sport in UK universities and colleges is football. Rugby, hockey, athletics, canoeing or rowing are other popular sports. The clubs and societies office of your Students' Union organizes several intramural and inter university sports programs during the term in co-ordination with BUSA, the government body of UK university sport.

You'll also find a wide range of non-sports clubs – and you'll probably find one that interests you. From the agricultural club to the wine society, there is every opportunity to pursue an interest or hobby, or simply to try something new.

You can join clubs and societies during the freshers' fair or by visiting the club's office. There will be a nominal membership fee. You can also form a sports club or society of your own.
