Kuban State University is one of the oldest institutions of higher education in our country. It was founded in september 1920. At that time there were three faculties: social history, netural sciences and medical. Besides there was a workers department at the university. It was housed in the building of the girls school.

The first rector of the university was Nickandr Marx, a man of many talents. He worked much in the field of literature and history, especially in archeology. After his death in 1921 the university was reorganized and 2 institutes were established: Krasnodar Teachers training college and Medical one.
