UF 07 CARPATHIAN BIOSPHERE RESERVE 03.08 - 16.08 Rakhiv, Carpathian region, ENVI, 8 vol

PROJECT: The Carpathian biosphere reserve (CBR) is a nature-protected scientific-research institution of international significance. The scientific staff of the reserve gives much attention to the environmental grounds development of the natural ecosystems preservation and their management methods in the Carpathian region. According to the results of the conducted researches, tens of volumes of the “Litopys pryrody” (Chronicle of nature), several monographes and hundreds of other scientific publications were published. Besides, the reserve is a training ground for the environmental investigations of many other scientific institutions. The scientific conferences, seminars and symposiums are held on the reserve’s basis. Students and specialists in the sphere of biology, forestry, nature protection do their scientific practical work and raise the level of their skill here. But besides scientific work there is a lot of practical things to do – activities of CBR are also oriented for environmental protection, work with public, development of tourist routes, etc.

WORK: volunteers are welcome to help while laying new ecotourism route from Central estate of the CBR to the geographical center of Europe. The essence of this work would be to arrange of the outfall - digging of the ditch, repair of existing drainage paths of canvas, it’s arrangement

ACCOMMODATION: boarding school/tents(sleeping bags needed).

LOCATION: Town Rakhiv, founded in 1447 – it is the most high-mountainous town and the regional centre in Ukraine. It is located in a northeast part of the Transcarpathian area in a mountain hollow at height of 430 m. above the sea level. It has long and interesting history – different legends, stories and historian facts are connected with this town. Thanks to a geographical arrangement, the unique nature and original Huzul culture Rakhiv is known as one of the most popular tourist-recreational centres of Ukraine. It is known and famous as well not only because of it‘s beautiful nature, but as well of it’s preserved folk culture which is often represented in local festivals, for example festival of brynza – traditional local kind of cheese. traditional embraced clothe etc.

WHAT TO BRING: Sleeping bags, working clothe, comfortable shoes for hiking, traditional food and clothe is welcome as an essential part of the intercultural evening.

TERMINAL: Lviv, UKRAINE. Lviv airport (International code LWO). There is good connection by train/bus from Krakow/Wroclaw/Warsaw/Kiev and many other European cities. From meeting point in Lviv volunteers all together will go to Rakhiv – tickets will be booked in advance, so you should make sure you will be with the group in the appointed day and place (other way volunteers will pay the way to Rakhiv by their own). Detailed information and maps will come with info sheet not later then 4 weeks before start date.

EXTRA FEE: 20 Є for covering of travel expenses to camp place (from Lviv to Rakhiv and back)
