UF 02 MEMORIAL MUSEUM 14.07-27.07 Lviv, RENO/HIST, 8 vol

PROJECT: Memorial Museum of Victims of Occupation Regimes "Prison on Lontsky Street" was open in 2009. Since than group of historians, designers, volunteers and enthusiasts are working on the development of the museum in order to promote it, to make it interactive cultural place (shoving movies, organizing performances, holding lectures etc). It is the first museum in Ukraine based on the territory of a prison. For almost a century this building was a witness of a cruel actions by the repressive bodies. During different periods it was Polish, Nazi and Soviet detention centre, mainly, for so called political criminals - no matter what nationality was the prisoner, if he or she was against of the regime - it was the reason to be arrested.

WORK: Volunteers help is needed to arrange the territory of the prison (some manual work about the building and the yard). Besides the team of the museum is preparing to create the on-line archive of the documents about prisoners, so volunteers help will be needed for scanning of the documents. There could be optional work – for example helping while the preparing of the exhibition or help while adopting of the English version of the excursion (together with English s

peaking guide and with help of camp leaders).Volunteers will have chance to cooperate with young workers of the museum – designers, historians, event-managers.

ACCOMMODATION: boarding school/hostel - sleeping bags not needed.

LOCATION: Lviv – the city which has about 755 years history, it’s called “cultural capital” of Ukraine and is located 60 km from EU-Poland boarder. This is the city of festivals and beautiful architecture, city of multicultural and wonderful atmosphere.

TERMINAL: Lviv, UKRAINE. Lviv airport (International code LWO). There is good connection by train/bus from Krakow/Wroclaw/Warsaw/Kiev and many other European cities. Detailed information and maps will come with info sheet not later then 4 weeks before start date.

ADDITIONAL INFO: Camp language is English. Sightseeing, excursion through Lviv and week-end trips are planned as a part of the camp.
