Note: To make compound adjectives of age we combine numbers with nouns in the singular. When a noun is used as an adjective, it doesn’t have the plural form. Eg: He is a boy of 10 = He is a ten – year - old boy

Note: Study the difference between the words in bold type and learn them:

A very young child is a baby or (more formally) an infant. A child who has just learnt to work is a toddler. People aged 13 to 19 are teenagers and a young teenager (13 – 16) may also be called an adolescent, but this word is rather formal, and may show disapproval. A youth is an older, usually male, teenager, but this word often shows disapproval. Kid (informal) is used both for children and for young people. At the age of 18 a person turns into an adult/grown up and he becomes legally responsible for his actions. A person who is no longer young, and is considered to have the good qualities of an older person is called mature. When a person is over 40, he becomes middle – aged. At 60 or 65 people are called pensioners, because they stop work and retire on a pension.
