On English food

The usual meals are breakfast, lunch, tea and dinner. Breakfast is really a big meal, but one would find that lunch is not small either. The usual breakfast is porridge with milk or cream and sugar, bacon and eggs, marmalade with buttered toast, and tea or coffee.

At lunch, which is at about one o`clock, cold mutton or fish with potatoes. After lunch most people take coffee, though tea is the favourite beverage in England. There is nothing like an English tea-party, be it at home or in the open air.

Dinner, which is around 7 o`clock in the evening. In the morning they have breakfast, at midday-dinner, which is considered to be the chief meal, tea in the afternoon and supper in the evening.

Sport

Sport is an important part of every person’s life. It helps people to keep fit, healthy and slim. Sport is also very competitive. When it first appeared in the world people started thinking of different contests and choosing the best ones in each category. The Olympic Games, which take place every four years, are a good example of competition. It’s a great occasion, where sportsmen from all over the world can show their talents. I’m a great fan of these games. If I only had a chance, I would happily participate in such competition, or at least I would like to be the spectator at these games. My favorite sport is figure-skating. I always follow the news in the field of figure-skating and I try not to miss the beautiful shows of this sport on TV. I always try to do my morning exercises and sometimes if my friend is up to it we go jogging. It helps us to be fit and provides with energy for the rest of the day.

English language

Over the years English has become the most popular and spread language in the world. It’s the native language of such countries as Great Britain, the United States of America, Canada, Australia and New Zealand. It’s also widely used in many European, Asian and African countries for business and studies. United Nations use English as one of their official languages. Perhaps, the reason why English is so popular lies in its importance in different parts of our life. The areas which need English are banking, accounting, agriculture, science, medicine, sales, tourism and many others. Millions of people nowadays go to language schools and learn English as their second language.

Newspapers

My family and me are fond of reading newspapers. At our flat you can always find very much different magazines and newspapers lying everywhere. There are political, economical, informational, reading for mind and other newspapers and magazines about all spheres of life. We don’t like to eject old magazines because there is always interesting and useful information that one-day can be used. Nowadays we don’t subscribe to any newspapers or magazines. Usually we bye some interesting magazines and every member of our family has its own favorite kind of reading

Cinema

In England the cinema is usually called “the pictures”. In America the word “the movies” is often used. Cinema-going is a favourite pastime in Britain. People go to the cinema once or twice a week. Cinema-going is more popular in industrial towns in the North of England and Scotland than in the South. However, especially if it is cold and wet outside, many people like to stay at home to watch TV. Cinemas in England are usually large and more comfortable than the theatres. Often there is a restaurant, so that it is possible to spend an afternoon and evening there (if you have enough money, of course). Behind the cine-ma screen there is a stage, so that the building can be used for concerts and other performances.

Choosing a Career

There are a lot of professions and it is difficult to make the right choice. I have made my choice: I'm going to be manager of tourism. When I was a little girl I dreamed to be a pilot. I wanted to see the whole world. I was going to travel around the world, to see new countries, visit new places of interest and to make new friends. But later I knew that there are a lot of opportunities to see the world. You can be a diplomat, a geographer, a sailor or a tour-manager. I think that manager of tourism is a very good job. They are working with different people in different countries in various hotels and resorts. You can work in an office and sell tour-vouchers or you may be a representative of Russian tour operator in a foreign country and work with tourists as a guide and translator. I decided to be a manager of tourism while I was traveling with my parents. So I do my best to get to that dream. I learn computer, English, Russian and geography.
