MY FLAT. For a long time my family didn’t have a permanent residence. We lived in the hostel and rented a house. But not long ago we received a flat in a new residential area not far from the centre of the city. It is situated on the second floor of a multi-storeyedhouse and has all modern conveniences such as: electricity, gas, central heating, running cold and hot water and a lift. My flat is well-planned, because all rooms are spacious and separate, but it faces a busy street with heavy traffic. Our flat is not fully furnished yet but we are saving up to buy missing furniture. The entrance door opens into the hall. There are only the most necessary pieces of furniture in it: a coat-rack, a chest- of- drawers for shoes and a mirror on the wall. The floor is covered with a fitted carpet. The hall leads to the living-room, a bed-room, a study, a bathroom, and a kitchen. Our kitchen is big enough to have meals in it. So in the middle of it there’s a kitchen-table with two stools round it. The kitchen is planned in such a way to make a good house-keeping easy between the sink with hot and cold water taps and refrigerator there’s a gas-cooker. And at the opposite wall there’s a cupboard with separate shelves for cooking utensils and tableware. Next door to the kitchen is our bathroom. There on the left you can find a bath-tub where you can take a bath or a shower. And above the wash-basin there is a glass shelf for toilet articles, where we keep a soap dish, a glass of tooth brushes, a tube of tooth paste and a bottle of shampoo. The biggest and the most comfortable room in our flat is a living-room. It is rather spacious because there we have only the most necessary pieces of furniture: a wall-unit and a sitting- group which consists of 2 armchairs and an upholsted suit. In the right hand corner there’s a TV set on a special table. On the window there are curtains of pretty design and the floor is covered with a thick carpet. To the right of the sitting-room there is my parents’ bedroom. In the middle of it there are 2 beds with bedside-tables and at the opposite wall you can see a dressing table with a big mirror and a round stool in front of it. In the corner there is a roomy wardrobe with special shelves for bed linen. And the last room and the one I like most of all is my study, where I live and work. Its walls are lined with shelves full of books as I am fond of reading. And the place where I spend most of my time is my working- desk, with plenty of drawers for my personal things.
TEXT B.
PRIVATE HOUSE. We live in a private house. It is a brick cottage with a tiled roof and a porch. The floor space of our house is 60 square metres. So our house is rather spacious but we have a small plot for the garden. Our house has 5 rooms and a verandah with large windows which face a flower-bed. It is very bright and beautiful in spring and summer as I am fond of growing the flowers, especially tulips, roses, carnations. We don’t buy vegetables at the market as we have our own kitchen-garden. We grow different vegetables such as: potatoes, cabbages, carrots, tomatoes, cucumbers, onion, garlic. We also keep a garden and grow such fruits as: plums, pears, apples, cherries. When autumn comes we prepare different preserves and keep them in the cellar. At the back of the house there is a shed where we keep different tools, food-stuffs for domestic animals. By the way, a pigsty, a poultry yard and a cow-shed are situated behind the house. We call this place a barnyard. We have a car and keep it in the garage which is just in the yard. Near the gate you can see a kennel where our dog lives. Its name is Dick and it is a real guard. In summer I like to sit on the porch and enjoy the weather.
TEXT C.
HOUSEKEEPING.
Housekeeping is much easier than it used to be. It’s because of modern conveniences such as electricity, gas, running cold and hot water, and many useful machines which economize our time and efforts. But all the same household duties take much time. That is why all members of the family must help each other and everybody must be in charge of some chore. Children can help their parents in different ways: they can clean the house, make their beds, bring in dry things from the clothes-lines, do the ironing, sew on buttons and cook simple meals. Junior school children can lay the table and help with washing up. In this way they learn to do things for themselves and practice in housekeeping. The most active in running the household in our family is mother. But my father and I have our own duties too. For example I am in charge of washing up which should be done after each meal. First of all I clear away the dishes from the dinning table and pile everything near the sink. Then I take the dishcloth and wash the glasses, the knives, forks and spoons, then the plates and last of all the greasy dishes. And after that I wipe everything with a tea- towel or just put it into the plate-rack to dry. Everybody knows how pleasant and necessary it is to have clean clothes and bed-linen. Earlier we took our washing to the laundry but after we bought a washing machine we started doing it at home and it became my duty. Keeping our flat tidy and clean is another important household chore. That is why once a week all members of our family take part in general cleaning. We sweep and wash the floor, dust and vacuum the furniture, beat the dust out of the carpet till everything begins to shine. Our family is very friendly, we try to help each other and to do everything together. Поиск по сайту: |
