London

There are a lot of places of interest in London. They are all worth seeing. On the north side of Trafalgar Square stands one of the world's greatest art galleries. The National Gallery represents all schools of Western painting from the Italian Primitives to the early 20th century. Portraits by Reynolds and Gainsborough can be seen here. Since the time of William the Conqueror the Tower of London has served as a fortress, a royal residence, treasury, mint and prison. Here many people were imprisoned and beheaded. Now it's a museum. There is a legend about the Tower. It says that the Tower will fall if it loses its ravens. So the birds are carefully guarded. St. Paul's Cathedral is the largest and the most magnificent church of the city. The Victoria and Albert Museum represents the finest examples of the applied and decorative arts of all kinds. It has collections of furniture, jewellery, costumes, musical instruments and metalwork. The Barbican centre was opened by the Queen in 1982. It includes a concert hall, the home of the London Symphony Orchestra, two theatres, three cinemas and an art gallery. Trafalgar Square is famous for its pigeons, demonstrations and New Year revelries. Whitehall contains many government offices. Downing street at number 10 contains the Prime Minister's residence. Piccadilly Circus is one of London's busiest road-junctions. It's always full of cars, people as there are many theatres, shops and restaurants there. One of the beautiful things in London is Madame Tussaud's museum. It represents wax figures of the famous and infamous people of the past and present.

Moscow

There are many places of interest in Moscow. The city is famous for its historical monuments, museums, art galleries and theatres. The Historical Museum, the Pushkin Museum of Fine Arts, the Tretyakov State Picture Gallery are world famous. Moscow is proud of the Bolshoy, Maly and Art theatres. The Kremlin - the oldest historical and architectural centre - is the heart of Moscow. At first it was a wooden fort. Under Dmitry Donskoy the Kremlin was built of white stone. During the reign of Ivan III the walls of white stone were replaced by redbrick walls and towers. The Tsar invited Italian architects to construct the cathedrals. The Russian Tsars and Emperors were crowned in the Assumption Cathedral. The Archangel Cathedral was the burial place of the Russian Princes and Tsars. The Annunciation Cathedral is famous for the icons painted by Andrew Rublev and his apprentices.

Ivan the Great Bell Tower is one of the most remarkable structures of the 16-th century. It rises in the centre of the Kremlin. On the stone pedestal at the foot of the Bell Tower stands the Tsar-Bell - the largest bell in the world. Not far from it one can see the Tsar-Cannon.

One of the well-known Kremlin museums is the Armoury Chamber. The famous golden cap of Monomach, the first Russian imperial crown of Catherine II, and many other precious historical items are exhibited there.

Means of transport

People began to travel ages ago. The very first travellers were explorers who went on trips to find wealth, fame or something else. Their journeys were very dangerous but still people keep on going to the unknown lands.

Nowadays it is not as dangerous and much more convenient. Do you want to go somewhere? Hundreds of companies are there to help you. They will take care about your tickets and make all the reservations needed. You don't speak the language of the country you go to? There are interpreters that will help you. With modern services you can go around the world. You can choose the means of transport you like: plane, train, shi p, bicycle or you can travel hiking.

Of course, travelling by air is the fastest and the most convenient way, but it is the most expensive too.

Travelling by train is slower than by plane, but it has its advantages. You can see much more interesting places of the country you are travelling through. Modern trains have very comfortable seats. There are also sleeping cars and dining cars which make even the longest journey enjoyable. Speed, comfort and safety are the main advantages of trains and planes. That is why many people prefer them to all other means.

Travelling by sea is very popular. Large ships and small river boats can visit foreign countries and different places of interest within their own country.

As for me, I prefer travelling by car. I think it's very convenient. You needn't reserve tour tickets. You needn't carry heavy suitcases. You can stop wherever you wish, and spend at any place as much time as you like.

The Empire State Building used to be the highest building, but now it is only the third. It is a 102- storeyed building. Broadway is the longest street in the world. It is about 12 miles long. It is the centre of entertainments.

By the present moment, the Metropolitan Museum is the richest museum in the world in objects of Art, due to what had been bought from Europe after the World War Two. Besides, we can see the works of American painters there too.
