Dollar diplomacy - definition of foreign policy U.S. actions undertaken in the interests of American business. First used on foreign policy the administration of President W. Taft, who in December 1912 announced the desire to "replace bullets for dollars" as a tool of American economic expansion; force techniques giving place economic pressure. Instead of hard-line policy of "big stick" diplomacy came to the U.S., is designed to use financial leverage to achieve the strategic goals of the U.S., which determined the Monroe Doctrine and the doctrine of "open door". By encouraging and supporting investments and loans in Latin American countries, the government tried to stabilize W. Taft political and economic situation in these countries and to strengthen the U.S. position in them, particularly in the area of the Panama Canal, and displace European capital of Central America. Dollar diplomacy as a means of protecting the interests of U.S. monopolies purposefully pulled major U.S. banks in foreign policy process. Dollar diplomacy was used to finance the construction of railways in China since 1909, applied for Haiti, Honduras and Nicaragua, where American loans combined not only with the introduction in 1911 as U.S. tax collector, but U.S. military interventions USA. In the broadest sense of the concept of dollar diplomacy used to determine the totality of funds used by U.S. foreign policy goals.
