I am a student of Smila technical secondary school of food technologies. I study at the department of exploitation and repairing of facilities of food industry. The term of studies is 3 years and 10 months. I shall get the qualification of the younger specialist - technician-mechanic.

The younger specialist – technician- mechanic is preparing for the professional activity at the enterprises and producing units of food industry, at the shops of agricultural enterprises and technological complexes of small power in manufacturing of food production. Technician-mechanic can occupy the posts dealing with assembling, exploitation and repairing of facilities, technique.

Knowledge and skills of practical activity, which the specialist of technician-mechanic gets, allows him to service the modern facilities and technique of farms, autoservicing enterprises and other enterprises of different forms of ownership.

The educational plan foresees studies of such subjects: construction and exploitation of facilities, processes and apparatuses, basic hydraulics, computing of manufacturing, repairing and assembling of facilities and so on.

The best school-leavers of the Technical Secondary School have the opportunity to enter National State University of Food Technolologies and Cherkasy State Technological University in the result of discussion.

I Am a Student

In our country we have much educational opportunities. We may choose any profession we like. This year I finished the 9-th form of the secondary school №2 in town Smila. And I entered the Technical Secondary School of Food Technologies, the department of repair and assembling of equipment for the plants of food industry, in other words, the mechanical department. We discussed this question in our family for a long time. And my parents backed my decision to become a mechanic. I have passed my entrance examinations in mathematics and Ukrainian successfully and was admitted as a student to the technical school.

So I am a first-year student now. My working day begins at 7 o'clock in the morning. I have my breakfast, say good-bye to my parents and go to the technical school. It is situated not far from the center of the town. And it takes me half an hour to get there on foot. I like to walk in the morning instead of taking a bus.

Our classes begin at 820 and last till 230. Usually we have 4 pairs of lessons a day. A pair lasts for 80 minutes. We study different subjects. My favourite subjects are mathematics and English. In the first year we study the program of the 10th and the 11th form of the secondary school. From the second year of studies we have special subjects for every speciality. We study drawing, theoretical mechanics, electrical engineering, hydraulic, sanitation technique, construction materials. We have different practice in the workshops and on the plants. And the senior students know every detail of the plant where they are going to work.

After the lessons we have to clean our classrooms, and go to the library to prepare the homework in some subjects. Then I go home to have dinner and go to the gymnasium to have trainings in athletics. I have them three times a week. It helps me to keep my body healthy and fit. I am at home in the evening. I continue to do my homework. It takes me much time to do the sums in mathematics, to learn topics in English and to read novels in literature. Sometimes I have to work till 11 o'clock to cope with all home assignments. I try to do my best. But my results are not always good. Never the less I hope for the best.

· What do you like and dislike in the system of education of our country? What would you like to change, if you could?

· Do you think there should be private and state schools? Why? Give your reasons. Which of these schools do you go to? Which would you like to study at?

· Do you think higher education should be free or fee-paying? Why? Give your reasons.

· Do you think technical schools should pay much attention to extra-curricular activities or should they just teach compulsory subjects?

· What is your opinion about developing "social skills" at the technical schools? Where else could they be developed?

· The system of education of Ukraine is considered to be one of the most successful in the word. Do you agree with this?

· Would you like to study abroad? Why?
