PERSON WHO INFLUENCED MY LIFEThe people that know me best, from my imperfections to my excellence, are my parents. They have the greatest influence in my life because they are the people I see the most and have known for the longest. They had to give up many indulgences in order to give their children the best life possible. My father has had a huge impact on my life and it is because of him that I am the person I am today. Most people say I am a lot like my dad, both physically and mentally. We both have the same temperament, facial expressions, and mind set. We love to hang out, drink a beer, and converse about our lives and families. We both have a fabulous personality, thus making friends easily. From observing my dad's joker like behavior and consistent work ethic has had a contentious impact on my life. My dad's ability to improve his personal life has inspired me to always try my hardest to do the best that I can. Thanks to him, I have more opportunities than he had at my age. I feel that if I do not take advantage of everything he has made possible for me, I will be settling for less. I believe that if my dad was able to achieve such a prosperous life with very little to start out with, I should be able to do the same. My dad's story makes me realize that I can accomplish anything I desire. My dream of being a successful independent woman is presently becoming a reality. I admire my dad so much and his influence on me has made me a very determined person. I never give up, even when I feel my mishaps can sometimes be overwhelming. The beliefs that my father has instilled in me since an early age are continually helping me in my lives difficulties today. I recently lost my dad. It is the hardest thing I have ever dealt with or thought I would have to. My dad’s strength still lives on inside me as I am a survivor of a parent who committed suicide. Our love for each other will continue on for eternity.
MY WORKING DAY On weekdays the alarm-clock wakes me up at 6.30 and my working day begins. I switch on my tape-recorder and do my morning exercises. Then I go to the bathroom, take a warm shower, clean my teeth and shave. After that I go to my bedroom to get dressed. Usually my mother makes breakfast for me. While having breakfast, I listen to the latest news on the radio. I leave the house at 7.30 and go to the nearest underground station. I usually arrive at work at ten minutes to nine though my working day begins at 9 sharp. There are always some fax messages to translate from English into Russian. Sometimes my boss wants me to write a letter to our business partners abroad. There are also a lot of phone calls which I have to answer. At 1 o’clock in the afternoon we have lunch. We usually have lunch in a small café just round the corner. At 2 o’clock we come black to work. And we work hard till 5 o’clock. I come home at about 7 o’clock in the evening. My parents are usually at home writing for me we have dinner together. Then we sit in the living room, drink tea, watch TV or just talk. Occasionally I have to stay at work till 6 or 7 o’clock in the evening. When we have a lot of things to do we work on Saturdays. All I can do on Sundays is to sleep till eleven o’clock, watch television, listen to music and read something in English. And still I always look forward to my next working day because I like my job. I thing I get a lot of useful experience. MY BEST FRIEND Every person needs a friend. Friends are very important in our life. I think you cannot live without friends. A friend is a person who is always by your side. Your close friend or best friend is a person whom you can trust with everything no matter what happens.. Now what can I say about my best friend Igor? Igor is my neighbor. He lives next door. My best friend is a good and honest person. Igor has good sense of humour. He always manages to be cheerful and energetic. He thinks everything will be all right. Igor has a lot of hobbies. My friend is very active. He is fond of skateboarding. He also likes break dance. He is also fond of driving. His father teaches him to drive. After school he is planning to go to a driving school. Igor reads a lot, just swallows books one by one. He is into Russian classical literature and fantasy very much. He is also fond of different computer games. My friend knows a lot of interesting facts about music, famous people and history. It’s always very interesting to talk to Igor because he reads a lot, is always interested in the news and is glad to share new information. He does not have much time because he goes to a gym and to computer classes. But when he has free time we usually spend it together. We watch videos or listen to music, go for a walk, go shopping, talk about lots of things (school, teachers, our interests, our hobbies, news, politics and girls, of course). We discuss books, films and television programmes. He is always willing to help and share his knowledge, thoughts and feelings with me. We have very much in common so we quarrel very seldom. In other words, our friendship is wonderful and I am proud of such a perfect friend as Igor! I am sure we shall be friends forever. BIG BEN Big Ben is one of London's best-known landmarks, and looks most spectacular at night when the clock faces are illuminated. You even know when parliament is in session, because a light shines above the clock face. The four dials of the clock are 23 feet square, the minute hand is 14 feet long and the figures are 2 feet high. Minutely regulated with a stack of coins placed on the huge pendulum, Big Ben is an excellent timekeeper, which has rarely stopped. The name Big Ben actually refers not to the clock-tower itself, but to the thirteen ton bell hung within. The bell was named after the first commissioner of works, Sir Benjamin Hall. This bell came originally from the old Palace of Westminster, it was given to the Dean of St. Paul's by William III. Before returning to Westminster to hang in its present home, it was refashioned in Whitechapel in 1858. The BBC first broadcast the chimes on the 31st December 1923 - there is a microphone in the turret connected to Broadcasting House. During the second world war in 1941, an incendiary bomb destroyed the Commons chamber of the Houses of Parliament, but the clock tower remained intact and Big Ben continued to keep time and strike away the hours, its unique sound was broadcast to the nation and around the world, a welcome reassurance of hope to all who heard it.
