Ukrainian folk weaving with beads

The production of beads has a long history and features of development.

The art of making jewelry from beads and embroidery and other women's crafts, came to us from the depths of history. From generation to generation was passed down the technique of making finishes, weave and folk ornaments. Due to its diversity, beauty, and unique folk motifs, elegance, peasant beaded jewelry has been recognized not only at home but also abroad. Products of rural craftswomen created over 100 years ago, and today enchant with its beauty, amazed by the originality of shapes and colours: perfect for modern clothes.

The birthplace of the beads is Ancient Egypt, where artificial pearls were made from opaque glass, which in Arabic was called "Bursa", hence its name. It was an ornament and trade object there.

On the territory of our state the beads was known in the times of Kievan Rus', as evidenced by archaeological data and written sources. Our ancestors knew the glass beads not only because of trading relations with the countries of the Middle East and Byzantium. Numerous loss-and ornaments of glass found in the VIII—XII centuries, testify to the wide development of the case of glass.

Bead art was in Western Ukraine and the Carpathians. First imported beads in very small quantities, sold his thimbles. Saige miracle was only the aristocracy or wealthy people. Modern techniques of stringing beads carefully preserved the traditions of ancient folk art, is now artfully complemented by new forms and patterns. It is very difficult to abandon such a rich heritage.
