Classroom English to be used by the pupils
If a pupil is late:
1. I am sorry, I am late, but I missed my bus. 2. The bus was full. 3. My alarm-clock didn’t go off. 4. I didn’t hear my alarm-clock. 5. I forgot my homework and had to go back for it. 6. I’m sorry, I didn’t feel well this morning. I had a dreadful headache (for somebody who arrived some several lessons late). 7. My mother wasn’t well this morning.
SITUATIONAL DIALOGUES
1. P: I am sorry, I am late, but all the buses were full this morning. T: That’s all right, Sashko. Go and sit down.
2. P: I am sorry, I am late, but all the buses were full this morning. T: (who is more doubtful about this pupil) It’s funny how everyone else always manages.
3. P: I am sorry I am late, but the bus was full. T: I wonder why it should be anymore full this morning than on any other day.
4. P: I am sorry, I am late. My alarm-clock didn’t go off. T: Did all the rest of your family oversleep too?
5. P:I am sorry, I am late, but my mother wasn’t well this morning. T: Hope she is feeling better. Next time, perhaps, she might give you a note.
Before a test:
1. I haven’t got my exercise-book. Can I do it on a piece of paper? 2. My pen has run out. Can someone lend me one? 3. I’ve run out of blue ink. Can I write in a different colour? 4. You are not going to take the marks in, are you? 5. We can’t do the test. You didn’t warn us. You said the dictation was going to be next week!
SITUATIONAL DIALOGUES
1. P: I haven’t got my exercise-book. Can I do it on a piece of paper? T: And where is your exercise-book?
2. P: My pen has run out. Can someone lend me one? T: Here you can have mine.

5. T: I'm going to give you a few sentences on the Perfect Tense to translate. P: We can't do the test. You didn't warn us. T: You should know the Perfect Tense by now. We've been doing it all week.
During a dictation:
1. Not so quick, Olha Petrivna. I haven't finished the last bit. 2. Could you say that again, please? 3. What did you say, Olena Ivanivna? I didn't hear you. 4. Is that a new sentence? 5. Was that a full stop? 6. Can you read it through again, please? I didn't catch it. 7. Please, Oksana Fedorivna. I missed the beginning. 8. Wait, I missed that. 9. Oh, Just a minute! I haven't finished it yet. 10. Can I read it through again? 11. Mine is rather untidy. Can I copy it out again?
