1.Derek Tonks’ Monster Suit. The intention for this project is to showcase my talents, abilities, and motivation. If fully funded, this project will serve as an excellent source of satisfaction for me and my parents. For my project I am building a full-size Hollywood-quality wearable monster suit that represents very common yet spooky everyday fears. Designed to embody everyday fears, the suit features mechanical monster-claws, 12" stilts, and a fully articulated face with animatronic eyes. Working in an art field has always been a life-long dream of mine and I believe I have found my niche. Please help me make this dream a reality! Thank you for your time, pledges, and consideration!

2. Liz Baillie “s FREEWHEEL. FREEWHEEL is an ongoing surreal fantasy hobo comic. It's the story of a young girl named Jamie whose older brother goes missing from their foster home one day and she sets off to find him on her own. Along the way, she discovers an underground network of people and a secret world she never knew existed. This year, I plan to self-publish the second volume, will be printed using 100% recycled paper and soy-based inks for the interiors. I believe this to be the most environmentally friendly way that I can print this book and still keep it affordable. The total amount of money I need to raise for this project is $2,775.This is how that cost breaks down: Printing (for 500 copies) - $2,450; Bar Code - $25; Shipping the books to me from the printer (estimated): $150;

3. Custom Sorem’s Split Strap (for Cameras, Laptop, Sports and Larger Bags, for Guitars, and Split Strap Arm Sling). Hello there! Thank you for stopping by our project. We were inspired to improve poorly designed straps that fail to address the basic anatomical needs of our bodies. We engineered the Split Strap concept from the ground up while integrating as many favorable features as possible. The Split Strap is designed and developed with maximum ergonomics and comfort in mind. Our breakthrough design utilizes a split in the strap which creates multiple points where the strap could sit and conform to the body; thus, distributing the weight evenly and increasing comfort. The rotating quick release buckle reduces strap tension by pivoting with the movements of the user, which decreases chaffing and increases slack to facilitate further flexibility and comfort. The split also promotes cooling by venting heat away. On the backside of the strap, we integrated sticky silicone printed logos that reduce annoying slippage. Thank you for your support!

LUMI is a sleep mask that simulates sunrise. The idea came from combining two familiar sleep products (sleep masks and sunrise clocks) that can’t be used in tandem. Our bodies are designed to sleep in darkness and wake with sunlight. Darkness triggers our brain to produce a sleep cue, melatonin, to help fall asleep. Sunlight aligns our daily rhythms and activates our metabolism so we wake easily, with more attention and energy. LUMI blocks out light, helping you fall asleep with ease and gives light stimulating the mind and preparing your body for the day. Before sleep, dial in your wake-up time on the alarm controller. Put LUMI on, and fall asleep. In the morning, 30 minutes before your wake-up time, LUMI’s soft light gradually grows brighter. If your alarm is at 7 am, the light will gradually brighten beginning at 6:30. An audible alarm sounds at the end of the sunrise sequence, letting you know it's time to start the day.

Julia Sherman’s Nun-Dolls. Did you know that many nuns today struggle to make their own habits (the traditional uniform for a nun)? This intricate garment is akin to a nun's wedding dress. In the contemporary moment, many Nuns make this deeply personal decision with greater freedom, choosing whether or not the clothes they wear will play an important role in the work they do and their spiritual quest. Though many might assume a celibate and religious life is also one of submission and limitation, convents have also provided women with extraordinary access to education, artistic expression and professional opportunities since the 18th century. Even today, many women sacrifice having a family and private belongings as a way to commit themselves to a productive life in other ways, whether that may be becoming a mid-wife, running a shelter or working as an educator.

For this project, I will be working at a Nun-Doll Museum in Indian River, MI to study the miniature replicas of 525 different Nun's habits. Referring back to these dolls is the best way to develop the missing sewing patterns and reproduce the habit. With this information I plan to create an online archive of patterns that will be a free resource for Nuns into the future, enabling them to sew their own habits -- if they so choose. Like Wikipedia, the site will be open source and invite others around the world to contribute sewing patterns and share their knowledge. As with many of my art projects, I am considering this archive of patterns as a launching point for what will become a collection of artifacts, correspondence, reflections, photography and sculpture.
