TEXT А: NATIONAL UNIVERSITY OF LIFE AND ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCES

National University of Life and Environmental Sciences is a leading institution of higher education and one of the leaders in higher agricultural education in Ukraine and well known worldwide.

Its history begins with foundation of the Department of Agriculture at the Kyiv Polytechnic Institute (KPI) in 1898, which was transformed into Agricultural faculty in 1918. Kyiv Agricultural Institute was created at KPI on the bases of that faculty. Later on the Institute became the independent educational institution. Kyiv Forestry Institute appeared in 1930.

In 1954 Kyiv Agricultural Institute and Kyiv Forestry Institute were united into the single institution – Ukrainian Agricultural Academy (UAA). Kyiv Veterinary Institute joined the Academy in 1957.

On the basis of Ukrainian Agricultural Academy Ukrainian State Agricultural University was founded in August 1992. In 1994 it received the status of National. Besides Kyiv campus it includes a number of regional institutions.

As a higher educational establishment of the 4 ^th level of accreditation, National University of Life and Environmental Sciences trains specialists in different areas and specialities. More than 20 thousand students study at its 20 faculties and 6 Regional Higher Educational Establishments.

There are such faculties as: Economics, Agricultural Management, Farm Mechanization, Power Engineering in Agriculture, Forestry, Park Gardening and Landscape Architecture, Veterinary Medicine, Land Management and others.

University awards the following degrees: Junior Specialist, Bachelor, Specialist, Master.

National University of Life and Environmental Sciences scholars have made a great contribution into development of agroindustrial complex of our country. It includes: new high productive varieties and hybrids of crops, breeds, species and branches of farm animals, new environmentally friendly pesticides and insecticides, new farm machines, progressive technologies of agricultural products production etc.

National University of Life and Environmental Sciences began its international Activities in 1950, when a group of students from China, Czechoslovakia, Hungary and Bulgaria came to study to the Kyiv Agricultural Institute. Since that time more than 3000 foreign students from 89 countries all over the world have graduated from the University.

In the 60’s University started active international co-operation with higher educational institutions of neighboring countries: Slovakia, Hungary, Poland, Bulgaria, Germany.

As a result of bilateral co-operation with Universities of the USA, Germany, Belgium and other countries our University has done a lot to reform its activities towards integrating into world educational system and getting international acknowledgement.

National Agricultural University get a new title National University of Life and Environmental Sciences in 2009.

Nick: Hello, Kate! You see, the students of the Faculty of Agrobiosestem Engeneering are going to conduct the scientific conference the day after tomorrow. Can you come and participate?

Kate: Oh, I don’t know. I think I will have to translate a lot from English. It’s a very important article. What time is the conference to start?

Nick: At 15.00. Actually, it won’t take much time, I suppose. But it is going to be the most interesting event. So you won’t regret if you come.

Kate: All right. Have you already prepared your report?

Nick: Yes, I have.
